NRSWA (New Roads & Streetworks for Supervisors) 5 Days
Qualification – City & Guild’s New Roads and Streetworks Act (1991) Certificate / Card.
The New Roads and Street Works Act requires that anyone who executes, works for, or on behalf of a utility company, is qualified for the activities being carried out. Any street works site must have at least one qualified operative on site at all times during works, and the site must have a qualified supervisor appointed to the site who can oversee the works. The supervisor need not be on site at all times, but must be able to adequately carry out the role. The supervisor qualification does not replace or overrule the operative qualification and one person cannot cover both roles at the same time.
The courses are arranged for delegates to become qualified in combinations of operative of supervisor units. For your guidance, operatives are manually carrying out the work, supervisors are trained to make sure that the operatives are doing the work correctly and safely.

Awarding Organisation – City & Guilds
The aim of this course is to give people at any level, in any sector, a grounding in the essentials of health and safety. It focuses on why health and safety is important and how individuals can make a real difference to the wellbeing of themselves and others. The course is also an ideal means of providing health and safety induction training for new employees in an organisation.
Who Should Attend?
Courses are designed for candidates to perform supervisory duties over operatives who physically carry out the work on the roadways and highways. Courses vary in their combinations of the units to provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform supervisor duties in accordance with the Street Works Act 1991
Course Objectives
At the end of the Training, candidates will be aware and able to: –
Summarise of the current NRSW Act.
Select appropriate PPE and safety equipment as required to carry out activities.
Monitor duties performed by Operatives
Provide a safe working environment for all workers.
Course Content
001 – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
010 – Monitoring, signing, lighting and guarding
011 – Monitoring excavation in the highway
012 – Monitoring reinstatement & compaction of backfill layer
013 – Monitoring reinstatement of sub and road base in non bituminous material
014 – Monitoring reinstatement of bituminous materials (may not be included in the course)
015 – Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs (may not be included in the course)
016 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footway
Assessment
Operative candidates are assessed carrying out practical tasks for each unit. Supervisor candidate assessments comprise of knowledge questions for each unit followed by observation of operatives carrying out various tasks.
Delegates must attend all of the days, in accordance with the C&G course programme, to achieve the necessary learning objectives to qualify for the qualification.
